UEFA has recently confirmed that the Serbian Football Association has been fined £12,250 (€14,500) for two rule breaches during their Euro 2024 match against England. The match saw Serbia face a 1-0 defeat against the Three Lions, with Jude Bellingham scoring the only goal of the game in the first half. Less than 24 hours later, UEFA announced disciplinary proceedings against Serbia.

The charges against the Football Association of Serbia include throwing of objects and transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event. The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will make a decision on the matter in due course. Additionally, a disciplinary investigation will be conducted regarding alleged discriminatory behavior.

In a subsequent update, UEFA revealed that the Serbian Football Association has been fined £3,800 (€4,500) for the throwing of objects and £8,450 (€10,000) for transmitting a provocative message unsuitable for a sports event. Albania also faced penalties following their match against Italy, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat after a pyro was set off by their supporters.

The Albanian Football Association was fined a total of £31,580 (€37,375), including £8,450 (€10,000) for the lighting of fireworks. Additional fines were imposed for the throwing of objects, pitch invasion, and transmitting provocative messages not fit for a sports event.

The incidents in question raise concerns about the conduct of fans and the need to maintain a respectful and safe environment during sports events. UEFA’s actions reflect their commitment to enforcing fair play and ensuring that such behavior is not tolerated in the football community.

As the Euro 2024 tournament progresses, it will be essential for teams and fans alike to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by UEFA. Respect for the game and one another is paramount in creating an enjoyable and positive atmosphere for all involved.
