Modi Set for Third Term Oath, Matching Nehru’s Feat

Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi is all set to take oath for a third consecutive term on Sunday, matching the record of Jawaharlal Nehru as the only other Prime Minister to do so. The new government will be a coalition government, unlike the previous two terms where BJP enjoyed a majority on its own.

Discussions and negotiations are ongoing among BJP leaders and allies to finalize the distribution of ministerial berths among the NDA constituents. Key portfolios like home, finance, defense, external affairs, education, and culture are expected to be retained by the BJP. Allies are likely to receive around five to eight cabinet berths.

Notable leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are expected to be part of the new Cabinet. Former chief ministers who won Lok Sabha polls such as Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Basavaraj Bommai, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Sarbananda Sonowal are strong contenders for ministerial positions.

The government formation exercise will also focus on states like Maharashtra and Bihar, where political dynamics are evolving. Changes within the BJP organization will influence ministerial appointments, with organizational imperatives playing a significant role. Modi’s commitment to inclusive governance and representation of marginalized communities will also be a key factor in government formation. The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by leaders from neighboring countries, highlighting the government’s commitment to regional cooperation.
