A special memoir project honoring the late manga creator, Nami Sano, is set to take place this summer. The project will consist of three parts, each focusing on different aspects of Sano’s life and work.
Firstly, an art exhibition showcasing Sano’s works will be held in Tokyo during the summer, followed by a second exhibition in her hometown of Nishinomiya, Hyōgo prefecture, later in the fall.
Additionally, a collection of previously unpublished works by Sano will be compiled into a volume, featuring pieces from her early career to the “Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto” spinoff “Hito Yonde 8823.” This collection is scheduled for release in August by Kadokawa.
The third part of the project involves a special feature in the 116th issue of Harta magazine, highlighting Sano’s life and work. The issue will include illustrations and text from fellow manga creators who were close to Sano, as well as a short story from her collected works.
Nami Sano, who tragically passed away in August 2023 at the age of 36 due to cancer, was known for her debut series “Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto.” She had been in the midst of planning a new manga at the time of her diagnosis.
Her second series, “Migi & Dali,” ran from 2017 to 2021 and inspired a television anime. Both series received acclaim for their unique storytelling and art style.
The memoir project aims to celebrate Sano’s legacy and contributions to the manga industry, ensuring that her work continues to be cherished by fans and fellow creators alike.
