Improvement in MISD 3-8 STAAR Results

The Texas Education Agency recently released the spring 2024 State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) 3-8 results, providing valuable insights into student performance in various subjects. In Midland, the percentage of students meeting grade-level standards in reading and math saw significant improvements across different grade levels.

Superintendent Stephanie Howard expressed pride in the gains made in reading and math, emphasizing the collaborative effort of teachers and students. The district’s focus on achieving state-level averages or above highlights its commitment to continuous improvement.

Notably, the implementation of a district-wide reading language arts curriculum in grades K-8 yielded positive results, with kindergarten through second-grade students showing improvement in on-grade level reading. This momentum is set to carry into the next school year, with a consistent math curriculum planned for implementation.

The School Improvement team, under the leadership of Erin Bueno, is actively involved in analyzing data to identify areas for improvement and develop strategic action plans. Priority areas include 7th-8th grade math, 5th & 8th grade science, and 8th-grade social studies, with a focus on enhancing curriculum rigor and providing targeted teacher professional development.

The district’s performance in the End-of-Course (EOC) exams also showed promising results, with improvements in English I, II, Biology, and Algebra I. Combining this data with the 3rd-8th STAAR results underscores the district’s dedication to ensuring student success in key subject areas.

Looking ahead, Midland Independent School District remains committed to fostering parental involvement, implementing comprehensive student support programs, and using data-driven instructional strategies to help all students achieve proficiency and confidence in mathematics.

Overall, the district’s focus on continuous improvement and strategic planning underscores its dedication to enhancing student outcomes and promoting academic success for all learners. As the district continues to analyze data and implement targeted interventions, the future looks bright for students in Midland.
