An intriguing lawsuit has been filed against Elon Musk’s America PAC, alleging that the organization failed to fulfill its promise of payment to swing state voters who signed a pro-Trump petition ahead of the 2024 election. The lawsuit, which is a proposed national class action suit, was recently submitted in a federal court in Pennsylvania, a crucial state in Donald Trump’s bid for re-election.
The lead plaintiffs in the case are three individuals who participated in the America PAC initiative while residing in Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Georgia. One of the plaintiffs even worked as a canvasser for America PAC in Michigan and Georgia. Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest person, had pledged payments ranging from $47 to $100 to individuals who signed the petition supporting his pro-Trump PAC, with additional rewards for each eligible person they referred.
Despite Musk’s efforts to boost Trump’s campaign with an estimated $300 million expenditure and public endorsements, the plaintiffs claim they, along with numerous others, did not receive full payments for their referrals. The lawsuit asserts that there are over 100 Class Members owed payments exceeding $5,000,000.
Shannon Liss-Riordan, co-founder of the law firm representing the plaintiffs, emphasized the broken promise made by Musk and the disappointment felt by those who believed in his word. The lawsuit raises concerns about the legality of the scheme, which included lottery-like awards of $1 million per day to registered voters in swing states as Election Day approached.
Following Trump’s victory, Musk was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, where he has implemented changes benefitting his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Despite the allegations and legal challenges, America PAC maintains its commitment to compensating legitimate petition signers.
The lawsuit against America PAC and Elon Musk highlights the importance of fulfilling promises made to supporters and the potential legal implications of such initiatives. As the case unfolds, questions remain about the accountability of political organizations and the responsibilities of wealthy individuals in influencing electoral outcomes.
