Bird Flu Alert: बर्ड फ्लू से भारत में हो रहा खतरनाक संक्रमण

New Delhi: The recent case of a 4-year-old child in West Bengal being infected with the H9N2 virus has raised serious concerns about the danger of bird flu to humans in India. This marks the first reported case of a human falling sick from bird flu, according to the World Health Organization.

The child experienced difficulty breathing, high fever, and abdominal pain, leading to admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in February. After three months of examination and treatment, the child was discharged from the hospital.

The WHO confirmed that the child had been in contact with chickens near his home, making him vulnerable to bird flu. However, no other person in his family or vicinity has shown any symptoms related to respiratory illness.

There is no detailed information available about the vaccination and treatment the child received when symptoms were identified. The agency noted that this is the second case of H9N2 bird flu in humans in India, with the first reported in 2019.

H9N2 avian influenza virus is typically associated with mild illness in humans. However, due to the spread of the virus in poultry farms in many areas, it poses a risk to humans.

The question now arises: How can we prevent the spread of bird flu to humans in India? Vigilance in monitoring poultry farms, implementing strict biosecurity measures, and educating the public about the risks are essential steps to take.

With the threat of bird flu looming, it is crucial for authorities to take proactive measures to protect the health of the people. The recent case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by zoonotic diseases and the need for robust surveillance and response systems to address public health threats effectively.

By staying informed and following recommended guidelines, we can work together to mitigate the risks associated with bird flu and ensure the well-being of our communities. Stay safe and stay vigilant.
