Deadly Outbreak: 7 Cases of Chandipura Viral Encephalitis in Gujarat

Gujarat Health Department Confirms Seven Cases of Chandipura Viral Encephalitis

Gujarat has recently seen a spike in Chandipura Viral Encephalitis (CHPV) cases, with seven confirmed cases reported in six districts. Additionally, there have been 20 deaths in 58 suspected cases across the state.

The state health department released a bulletin detailing the situation, revealing a total of 58 suspected cases in 20 districts and cities. Out of these, seven cases have been confirmed as CHPV. The confirmed cases are distributed across various districts, including Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Morbi, Vadodara, and Mehsana.

Sabarkantha district stands out with the highest number of cases, with eight suspected cases and one death. Health minister Rushikesh Patel visited the district to assess the situation firsthand.

To confirm CHPV cases, the state government has been sending samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune. As part of preventive measures, health teams have screened 87,000 people and dusted 4,340 kuchcha houses with malathion powder, an insecticide.

CHPV is a virus transmitted by sandflies and mosquitoes, primarily affecting children up to 15 years old. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.

The outbreak of CHPV raises concerns about public health and safety. With the state government taking proactive measures, the key question remains: How can we effectively control and prevent further spread of the virus?

By prioritizing screening, treatment, and community education, authorities can mitigate the impact of CHPV on the population. Collaborating with healthcare professionals and researchers is essential in developing strategies to combat the disease.

As the situation evolves, staying informed and following recommended precautions is crucial in safeguarding public health. By working together and implementing targeted interventions, we can effectively address the challenges posed by Chandipura Viral Encephalitis in Gujarat.
