Justice seeks reports in missing person case

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has called for reports from various government officials in response to a petition filed by a woman seeking the recovery of her missing husband. Khaleeqa Khursheed is seeking the whereabouts of her husband, Khawaja Khursheed, who disappeared on June 7. He was last seen in Sector G-13 of Islamabad, and despite efforts to locate him, he has not been found.

The petitioner’s lawyer informed the court that a complaint has been filed with the police by Mr. Khursheed’s brother, but there has been no progress in finding him. The court issued notices to the concerned authorities and scheduled a hearing for June 21 after Eidul Azha.

In a related matter, the Additional Attorney General reported that 91 out of 95 missing Baloch persons have been recovered. Justice Kayani emphasized the importance of focusing on the recovery of missing persons and expressed concerns about potential repercussions for government officials involved in their disappearances.

The court inquired about the commission established to investigate the missing Baloch students, consisting of top officials from intelligence and law enforcement agencies. There were concerns raised about the recent disappearance of another Baloch student, Aneesur Rehman, on June 5.

The court highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing missing persons cases and recommended the formation of a larger bench to deal with such matters. It was suggested that troublemakers among the missing persons should be dealt with according to the law, while ensuring due process is followed.

The issue of unknown individuals picking up citizens and handing them over to authorities was also discussed, raising questions about the legality and transparency of such actions. Justice Kayani stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law and investigating these incidents thoroughly.

As the court continues to address cases of missing persons, it is essential to maintain transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights. The judiciary plays a critical role in ensuring that justice is served for all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.

The efforts to recover missing persons must be intensified, and those responsible for their disappearances must be held accountable. The rule of law and human rights must be upheld at all times to ensure a just and fair society for all.
