975 Dependents Stuck in Compassionate Appointments at UP Schools



Compassionate appointments in government-aided junior high schools in Uttar Pradesh are facing a stall, with 975 dependents of deceased employees awaiting placement. A recent review revealed that 789 cases from 52 districts are pending at the Basic Education Council office in Prayagraj, while 186 appointments from 51 districts await approval from the director of basic education. Efforts are being made to expedite these appointments, with directives issued by Director General Kanchan Verma to prioritize the resolution of pending cases in over 3000 schools statewide. However, the proposal to appoint graduate class 4 employees as teachers after completing DElEd training is still awaiting government approval. Plans are also in place to streamline the compassionate appointment process through collaboration with the National Informatics Centre for online processing. With 3,194 vacant positions in junior high schools, including headmasters and assistant teacher roles, addressing these delays is essential for ensuring efficient staffing in the education sector.
